Wanda Zybort Hanas, 91, Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Branford


Wanda Zybort Hanas, wife of the late Stephen L. Hanas, of Branford, died April 7 in Allied Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton, Pennsylvania. www.wsclancy.com.

Mrs. Hanas was born April 29, 1923, in Ansonia to Charles Zybort and Anna Kolenda Zybort. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, seamstress, and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church for many years. Wanda moved from Branford to Houston, Texas, in 1988 and enjoyed many active years with the St. Vincent de Paul School and Church Community. She had a passion for travel, walking, and loved visiting her family in Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Wanda moved from Houston, Texas, to Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 2005.

She is survived by her children Marianne Hanas (Lynn) of Branford, Steve Hanas (Barbara) of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Sue Hanas Aveline (Ray) of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Robyn Hoban of Houston, Texas; and her grandchildren William and Stephanie Hoban of Houston, Texas, Stephen James and Alex Hanas of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Jimmy Smith of Seattle, Washington, and Samantha Smith of Boulder, Colorado.

Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., April 14 at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., April 14, in St. Mary Church, 731 Main St., Branford, with burial to follow at St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Ansonia.
