Mary Jane Mischler, 82, Branford


Mary Jane McNulty Mischler, wife of the late William E. Mischler, Sr., of Branford, died April 6 in Connecticut Hospice. Mrs. Mischler was born December 19, 1932, daughter of the late James and Josephine Sheehan McNulty.

She was a cafeteria worker for the Branford Board of Education for many years until retiring. She was an attendant in the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1957. She spent her summers at Mansfield Grove Camp in East Haven for 75 years, where she was an inspiration to many children while teaching swimming. She also taught swimming and was a lifeguard at the pool at Walsh Intermediate School. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Mrs. Mischler is survived by her children Joseph (Carol) Mischler, Mary Kate Mischler, Peter Mischler, Barbara Mischler (Jamie Mullen), and Ellen Mischler, all of Branford, and Michael Mischler of St. John, Virgin Islands; her brother James McNulty of Florida; her grandchildren Lindsay and Joshua Mischler and Liam Mullen; and her great-grandson Trevor Curtiss. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who all looked up to her. She was predeceased by her son William E. Mischler, Jr., and her sister Catherine Plunkett.

Her funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, April 10, at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Therese Church, Branford, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford.
