Mary Randel Bielen, 99

Madison

Mary Randel Bielen died March 28 in her Madison home with

family members at her side. She was 99.

Mary was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 18, 1915, to Augustus

Henry Randel and Jessie St John Randel. She was the wife of the late William T. Bielen.

She spent her childhood in Darien, Connecticut, where she later married, raised her children, and was employed as a receptionist and editor.

Mary and her husband moved to Madison, Connecticut, during their retirement years. She spent many pleasant hours walking local beaches with her St Bernard dogs, George, Bandit, and Happy, collecting sea glass and jingle shells. Oprah was her much loved “last dog.”

Mary was a member of the Darien Boat Club, the Madison Needlework

Group, and the DAR.

She was very proud of her family.

She was loved by her three children: the late Thomas H. Smith, Patricia L. Weischet, and Bonnie M. Osborne.

She will be missed by her nine grandchildren: Melissa Smith, Tina Treyz, Randel Osborne, Lea Osborne, Wynn Filewich, Wade Weischet, Ward Weischet, and Wendy Price. Dr. Gary Price, grandson-in-law, held a very special place of trust and comfort.

She will be remembered by her seventeen great-grandchildren: Sadie and Bridget Fice; Christopher and Matthew Carrara; Carl, Cailey, Christina, and Paige Treyz; Kelsey and Taylor Weischet; Corey and Kevin Filewich; Lauren and Morgan Price; and Garrett, Floyd, and Roald Osborne.

The family expresses many thanks and sincere gratitude to Joycilda Mais, Mary’s friend and cheerful companion during the last years.

Memorial services will be held in the Spring at the Madison Congregational Church Memorial Garden.
