Leo C. Ketter, 77, North Haven


Leo C. Ketter, 77, of North Haven, died peacefully on Oct. 31 at his home.  He was the beloved husband of Natalie Dube Ketter.  Leo was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on April 14, 1935, son of the late Leo C. and Mary Jane Campbell Ketter.  He obtained his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and served his country faithfully in the U.S. Air Force.

Leo had worked for the former Winchester Western, Dresser Industries, and the former U.S. Repeating Arms, and had been an independent engineering consultant for many years until his death.  He had also published websites and instrumental reading materials on metal industry troubleshooting, including his “Gun Drilling Solutions,” considered by many to be the authoritative standard on the subject. 

Leo was a talented artist and craftsman.  Many of Leo’s beautiful carved and painted signs can be found in the greater New Haven area, and Leo shared his broad knowledge of wood carving in the instructional video, “Woodcarving with the Yankee.” 

Leo had served as lector for Saint Frances Cabrini parish since its establishment in 1967 and also served as minister of the Eucharist. 

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by three children, Clay Ketter of Sweden, Stephanie Davis of Hamden, and Christina Brinker of North Haven; his daughter-in-law, Jenny Mark Ketter; his sons-in-law, Justin Davis and Clark Brinker; and six grandchildren, Fanny, Clara, and Martha Ketter, Maya and Maxwell Davis, and Evan Brinker. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer M. Ketter, and his sister, Sister Mary Jacqueline Ketter.

Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Frances Cabrini Church, Pond Hill Rd., North Haven, on Monday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m., to attend a Christian funeral mass.  Visiting hours will be Sunday, Nov. 4, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven.  Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
