Joan O. Capon, 94, Guilford


Joan O. Capon, 94, of Hoop Pole Rd., Guilford, died peacefully on Aug. 5.  Joan was born in Sussex, England, on Nov. 21, 1917, daughter of the late Henry James and Olive Kate Saunders Capon. Joan came to the United States with her sister Rosemary in 1960 on the Queen Elizabeth with 10 poodles (four Standards and six Mini’s) to start a breeding and grooming business. After opening her business, she specialized in breeding Scottish and West Highland terriers.  Joan had also been a groomer for the Guilford Veterinarians for a brief time. In addition, she was an avid gardener, and aside from her dogs, she loved and cherished her cats.www.guilfordfuneralhome.com.

She is survived by her sister, Rosemary B. Capon of Madison, and her brother, Michael J. Capon of England.  She is also survived by a nephew, Phillip J. Capon of England.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 10 Race Hill Rd., Guilford, on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery, Guilford.  Contributions in her memory may be made to The Animal Haven, 89 Mill Rd., North Haven, CT 06473.
