Horace L. Shropshire, Jr., 87, Madison

Horace L. Shropshire, Jr., 87, of Madison, died on Dec. 13.  He was the husband of the late Dorothy Hawkins Shropshire, with whom he celebrated a golden wedding anniversary in 2004.  A native of New York, Horace was born in Yonkers, son of the late Horace and Gertrude (Stark) Shropshire.  He was a graduate of Syracuse University and had worked as a staff industrial engineer for Textron Lycoming.

During the Second World War, he was commissioned as an aviator and served with naval aviation, trained to pilot the TBM Avenger torpedo bomber.

Horace was dearly loved by everyone who knew him.  He was amiable and generous, a real man with a soft heart, faithful and of excellent character, honorable and strong, and altogether a true friend. He made a significant contribution to this world, and will continue to do so through his legacy. He will be deeply missed by everyone who was close to him.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Shropshire-Mobbs and her husband Keith of Brisbane, California, and his son, Samuel Shropshire and his wife Lisa and their children, Jordan and Olivia, of Westbrook.

Memorial funeral services will be private. Burial will take place at the discretion of the family.  The Swan Funeral Home of Madison is in charge of arrangements.
