Regina R. (Devitt) Moher, 100, Branford


Regina R. Moher, nee Devitt, died on Nov. 11. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Moher. Born in New Haven on Feb. 23, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Adams) Devitt and had celebrated her 100th birthday this past February. She had been a Branford resident for the past 53 years.

Regina was a member of Lauralton Hall’s class of 1927 and attended her 80th high school class reunion in 2007. She graduated from the New Haven Normal School (Southern Connecticut State University) in 1929 and returned to complete her bachelor's degree in 1964.  She had taught in the Branford School System for many years, retiring in 1978.  In 2006, her tremendous contributions to the Branford education system were recognized by her induction into the Branford Education Hall of Fame.

Jean had been a member of the New Haven Country Club for the past 65 years. She was also a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Branford, and had served as its president, as well as being president of the Retired Teacher's Organization.  In addition, she was a long time parishioner of St. Mary Parish in Branford and a past president of the New Haven Women's Club.  Jean and her husband had been members of the Branford Yacht Club.

Jean is survived by her four children and their spouses, Linda and David Gilmartin of Southampton, New York, William Moher, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Guilford, Patricia and Lynn Frary of Seattle, Washington, and James and Susan Moher of Glastonbury.  She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and their spouses, Rooney and Cherish Gilmartin, Billy Gilmartin, Patricia and Shawn Leonard, Alicia and Russell Almond, Tim and Kathleen Gilmartin, Brendan and Jennifer Gilmartin, Michael and Shaye Gilmartin, Heather Moher, William Moher III, Brian Frary and Baron White, Craig and Linnea Frary, Christopher and Christy Frary, Gretchen Guandolo, James and Christine Frary, Maureen Frary, James Moher, Jr., and Justin Moher. In addition, she is survived by 30 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Josephine Carton, and her brother, William Devitt.

Her funeral procession will leave the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford, on Monday, Nov. 15, at 9:30 a.m., for a mass of Christian burial at St. Mary Church at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.  Friends may call Sunday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Mary Church, 731 Main St., Branford, CT 06405.  For directions and online memorial see www.wsclancy.com.
