Press Release from Town of Guilford

The Town of Guilford is excited to announce that the long-awaited upgrade to the septic system at Jacobs Beach will begin on Monday, April 29. This project has been in the planning stages for many months and will bring a state-of-the-art passive nitrogen reduction (PNR) system to the beach.

The PNR system is a unique and innovative solution that uses reactive media for denitrification and a single liquid pump, if necessary. This type of system is only the fourth installation in the state and will greatly protect the water quality at Jacobs Beach.

To ensure the safety of residents and visitors, certain areas of Jacobs Beach will be designated as construction zones and be blocked off with a fence. However, for most of the project, the parking, pavilions, playgrounds, basketball hoops, and kayak access will still be available. There will be two days during the week when the entire facility will be closed due to large equipment being used. The town apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

The schedule for access to Jacobs Beach during the construction is as follows.

On Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30, the secondary entrance will be in use. A large section of the beach will be blocked off, and the parking area will be blocked off. Pavilions, kayaks, basketball hoops, and the playground will be available.

The Jacobs Beach facility will be closed on Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2.

On Friday, May 3, the secondary entrance will be in use. A large section of the beach will be blocked off, and the parking area will be blocked off. Pavilions, kayaks, basketball hoops, and the playground will be available.

The week of May 6 is scheduled to be determined, and additional facility closures may be needed.

The Town of Guilford is committed to providing residents and visitors with a safe and enjoyable beach experience. The new PNR septic system at Jacobs Beach will not only protect the water quality, but it will also contribute to the overall health and sustainability of the beach for years to come.
