The Branford Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Katie Wagner as Secondary Curriculum Coordinator for the Branford Public Schools (BPS).

Wagner brings with her nine years of experience in Branford as an English coach and teacher, English Language Teacher, and Interim Curriculum Coordinator for grades 5-12.

Additionally, Wagner has over nine years of experience working in Connecticut school districts as a middle and high school teacher.

Wagner is a skilled systems thinker with proven leadership in collaboration and team building. As Branford’s Interim Curriculum Coordinator, Wagner spent this past year overseeing the development of standards-aligned, teacher-written curricula in English language arts, math, science, social studies, and world language in collaboration with secondary coaches.

In her role next year, Wagner will continue to manage this tremendous task while working with building and district administrators to codify the new secondary leadership structure proposed for the district.

Wagner shared, “It is truly an honor to be selected as Secondary Curriculum Coordinator for Branford Public Schools. Branford is a wonderful community and I feel fortunate to work alongside highly qualified educational professionals who are equally passionate about student success. Together, we will cultivate an educational experience that empowers students to thrive not only academically but also as leaders when they graduate.”

Wagner is working toward her Educational Doctoral Degree at Northeastern University where her area of research focuses on the examination and strengthening of teacher agency in working with culturally and linguistically diverse students at the middle school level. Wagner currently holds 6th year and Master's degrees from Southern Connecticut State University and a Bachelor’s in English and political science from the University of Wisconsin.

Additionally, Wagner has an extensive background and professional endorsement for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Superintendent Christopher Tranberg stated, “Katie’s commitment to Branford, knowledge of current research, and her strong desire for organizational improvement make her the right person for the job. Having served in this role as Interim Curriculum Coordinator, Katie has proven time and again that she has the knowledge and skills needed to enhance teaching and learning opportunities for staff and students.”
