Guilford Man Arrested for Soliciting Relationship with a Minor

Press Release from Guilford Police Department

On Feb. 14, the Guilford Police Department (GPD) launched a joint investigation with the Weston Police Department into online interactions between a 14-year-old male juvenile and an adult male. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the adult male, John Degennaro, 59, of Guilford met the juvenile online by using the Snapchat App. Degennaro agreed to pay for an Uber to have the juvenile transported to a train station. The juvenile then took the train to New Haven, where he was picked up by Degennaro.

Degennaro brought the juvenile to an area mall, where he purchased him thousands of dollars’ worth of items. The juvenile stayed at Degennaro's residence overnight on multiple occasions. The investigation determined that Degennaro was soliciting the juvenile to be in an intimate relationship, including sexual contact and the exchange of nude photographs with the juvenile.

Degennaro was arrested for risk of injury to a minor and enticing a minor. Degennaro is being held on a $250,000 court-set bond.

During the investigation, it was determined that Degennaro had hidden cameras in his residence and was recording sexual activity without the knowledge or consent of other individuals. Anyone who has visited Degennaro's residence and believes they have been the victim of a crime should contact the GPD’s Detective Unit at 203-453-8243 for further assistance.

The GPD stated that even though an arrest has been made, this investigation remains active.
