Political Committees Elect Members

CLINTON

In early January, Clinton’s two major political parties held caucuses to choose the members who would make up each respective town committee. The members will assist with filling the multitude of boards and commissions in town and endorsing and supporting candidates during elections.

Every two years, the town’s Democratic Town Committee (DTC) and Republic Town Committee (RTC) select the members who help shape their party’s leadership roles. The two parties held their caucuses in early January to elect the new members. Those elected will officially start their two-year terms in March.

A primary role of town committees is putting forth candidates for the town’s appointed boards and commissions. Once a member of one of the parties informs the respective committee that he or she is interested in joining a particular board or commission, the committee vets the candidate. If the position is an appointed one, the recommendation for the appointment is sent to the Town Council, which typically approves the choice.

If the position a person is interested in is an elected one, the RTC and DTC help their respective candidates with their campaigns leading up to the November elections. Many of the DTC and RTC members are currently serving on some board or commission in town, though not every member of each board and commission is a member of a political committee. For example, all seven Town Council members (Republicans Chris Aniskovich, Dennis Donovan, and Mike Shove, as well as Democrats Carrie, Chris Passante, Hank Teskey, and Brian Roccapriore) are members of either the RTC or DTC.

This term, there will be 24 members in the DTC. This term, the DTC had a net loss of two members as five members left and were replaced by three new members. The next members are Zach Plourde, Terri O’Rourke, and Amy Maxwell.

The RTC saw comparatively less turnover than the DTC, with only Donna Dunn and Robert Corson being named as new members. There are 33 members of the RTC.

RTC members elected include Eddie Alberino, Joe Alves, Aniskovich, Wayne Buchanan, Walter “Beau” Clark, David Carroll, Kristina Carroll, Corson, Donovan, Dunn, Lawrence Edwards, Barbara Farmer, Bruce Farmer, Mike Florio, Matt Guarnieri, Michael Hornyak, Kathleen Kirby, Kieth Kleinschmidt, Michael Knudsen, Brian Manware, Peter Nye, Marc Palmeri, Lawrence Pilcher, Dave Roberts, Mary Saunders, Holly Sepowski, Shove, Catherine Staunton, Robert Voss, Carol Walter, Dylan Walter, Candy Way, Rick Way.

DTC members elected on Jan. 13 were Ploude, O’Rourke, Maxwell, Ciro Filango, Allen, Gebauer, Erica Gelvin, John Hussaini, Laurie Jaffe, Cinzia Letterieri, Paul Melanson, Jay Mandell, John May, Larry Ouellette, Passante, Mary Jo Phelps, Andrea Reu, Roccapriore, Miachel Rossi, Barbara Segaloff, Bertram Schmitz, Tom Schultz, Teskey and Michael Valenti.
