A press release from Lyman Real Estate Brokerage & Development stated that the 8,000-square-foot facility includes batting and pitching tunnels, a strength and conditioning area, a pro shop, and a turf infield and will feature retractable work. The business is open and offering memberships at this time, according to the release.
The release also stated that “Lumber 2 Leather Baseball & Softball Player Development is headed by Connecticut native and former Major League Baseball player Eric Campbell.”
Campbell was born in Norwich, Connecticut, and played professional baseball for 14 years. His career included stops with the New York Mets, Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics, and Seattle Mariners.
Christian Potts, a representative for the company, said the new business officially opened Oct. 1.
“As a Connecticut native, Eric wanted to open a facility in his home state that would provide the space for individual and team instruction at all levels for baseball and softball players. Old Saybrook was the perfect location for this, providing a central location near many of his current players as well as a strong base of athletes seeking to improve their skill,” Potts explained.
Potts said the services offered by the company, both in terms of equipment and instruction from the coaches, will be a positive development for players of all ages and skill levels.
“Having access to this kind of facility and instruction from Eric and his team can be a game-changer for younger and older athletes. They benefit from this level of attention and coaching that pays attention to the physical and mental parts of the game, giving them the tools to grow their skills as athletes that extend beyond the playing field,” Potts said.
