Madison Celebrates Memorial Day May 29

American Legion Griswold Post 79 will host the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m. Prior to the parade at 8 a.m., smaller ceremonies start at West Cemetery and another right after at West Wharf. All are invited.

The parade will form up at 9:30 a.m. by Stop ‘n Shop, kick-off at exactly 10 a.m., and will follow the same route as last year, from Samson Rock Drive, down Route 1 to the Green for the ceremony, where the parade will end. The main ceremony will begin on the Green at approximately 11 a.m. There will be addresses by Madison’s First Selectman Peggy Lyons, other elected officials, Commander of the American Legion Post 79 Charlie Corso, and commander of VFW Post 2096. Parade Marshal this year will be Larry Brundrett. There will be an Air National Guard flyover at around 11 a.m.

All local civic organizations are invited to march in this parade. Parade participants utilizing a float or transportation are asked to be respectful, and music should be appropriate. To register a group for participation, call 203-804-2693 or email farrell.donna@gmail.com to register.

In the event of rain, the ceremonies will be adjourned to the American Legion Hall on Bradley Road at 10:30 a.m. At the conclusion of the indoor ceremonies, members of the American Legion, the VFW, and veterans will go to the Green, West Cemetery, and West Wharf to lay wreaths and raise the flags. All interested persons are invited to attend any or all of these ceremonies.

Directly after the parade, the public is invited to American Legion Post 79 on Bradley Road for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly renovated hall. This will take place at approximately 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available.
