North Haven Education Foundation Grants Funds for Sensory Friendly Screening of Super Mario Bros. Movie

Press release from North Haven PTA Special Education Committee

The North Haven Education Foundation (NHEF) generously provided a grant to support a sensory friendly screening of The Super Mario Bros. Movie for students and community members in the North Haven area. The event was organized by the North Haven PTA Council Special Education Committee at Cinemark Theater on April 23.

The sensory friendly screening was designed to create a safe and welcoming environment for students and community members with sensory sensitivities, including those with autism spectrum disorder, and other special needs. The lights were dimmed, the sound was lowered, and there were no previews or advertisements before the movie. Viewers were also free to move around and make noise during the screening.

“We are extremely grateful to the North Haven Education Foundation for their support of this important event," said Monica Hatton, who organized the screening. “Thanks to their generous grant, we were able to create an inclusive and accessible experience for students and community members who may not have had the opportunity to enjoy a movie in a traditional theater setting.”

This program was made possible, in part, by a grant from the NHEF. Partnerships like these between the NHEF and the North Haven PTA Council Special Education Committee have a substantial impact on the children in town and serve to make North Haven an even more inclusive place in which to live.
