‘PowerSmart’ Campaign Launches in Branford

Press Release, Town of Branford

PowerSmart is part of a new statewide Solar+Storage outreach initiative designed to help Branford homeowners use Clean Energy and become more resilient.

Led by non-profit SmartPower, the campaign will inform homeowners about funding opportunities and options for using and storing solar energy. The initiative encourages residents to convert sunlight into electrical energy and store the energy in a battery for future use. Eversource programs will enable residents to sell their clean energy to the grid and help avoid distributing heavily polluting and expensive fossil fuel supply during peak periods.

The campaign will launch with an information session with refreshments at the Branford Community House on Thursday, April 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. The event will explain the funding and tax credits available for Solar+Storage. The session will also cover some of the steps to consider when buying and installing solar and battery systems.

Homeowners should visit https://powersmartbranford.wee.green to learn more and how to become part of the sustainability solution. The website will includes links to three Eversource programs: Residential Solar Incentives, Energy Storage Solutions, and Connected Solutions.

“Branford has been leading the way to help residents make smart energy choices. No matter what option a homeowner chooses, Branford residents will ensure that more clean energy goes into the grid to support our continued effort to help the environment in our community and the planet,” said First Selectman James Cosgrove.

Branford has a long record of environmental leadership. The town is one of the first among 28 Connecticut communities selected to launch PowerSmart and the initiative is consistent with Branford’s 2020 Energy Plan. Today in Branford solar energy provides power to two elementary schools, the wastewater treatment plant and eight municipal buildings. In addition, the town has adopted Net-Zero goals for town buildings starting with the Cosgrove Animal Shelter, anticipated to be the first Net-Zero animal shelter in the country.
