Within hours of a school lockdown due to a threat received at Walsh Intermediate School (WIS) on March 22, Branford police took a middle school student into custody in connection with the incident.

According to information released by Branford police on Facebook, “the student has been referred to juvenile court and other appropriate services.” Police said the incident was resolved with no further threat involved.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on March 22, Branford police notified the public that the school had been placed into a lockdown by school officials, while most of the students had already been released due to the day’s “early release” schedule. The notice also shared additional police presence was being assigned to the district’s schools “out of an abundance of caution,” with the investigation active and ongoing; and with police continuing to work with school staff to identify the suspect. Members of the public were also asked to contact police with any information pertinent to the incident.

Shortly after 4 p.m., police updated the public that the middle school student had been taken in custody for the threat.
