Five Juveniles Arrested in East Haven After Traveling in Stolen Car

Five juveniles ranging from 14 to 15 years of age were arrested after the stolen car they were traveling in was spotted by East Haven police officers on North High Street.

On March 22 at approximately 8:36 a.m., Officer William Coppola was traveling northbound on North High Street when a stolen vehicle occupied by five juveniles passed him traveling southbound. Several officers in the area of the East Haven Police Department spotted the vehicle traveling southbound on North High Street.

Once the operator of the stolen vehicle observed officers in the area, the vehicle turned down Hudson Street, which is a dead end. The vehicle continued down Hudson Street to the ice rink, but with nowhere to go, attempted to turn around, striking several police vehicles in the process.

The occupants of the stolen vehicle were taken into custody without further incident. As a precaution, Joseph Melillo Middle School and the East Haven Academy were put into a brief lockdown while the incident was taking place.

Juvenile No. 1 was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, three counts of assault on police, criminal trover in the first degree, and burglary in the third degree.

Juvenile No. 2 was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, burglary in the third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree, and conspiracy to possess burglar’s tools.

Juvenile No. 3 was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, and burglary in the third degree.

Juvenile No. 4 was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, and burglary in the third degree.

Juvenile No. 5 was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.
