Needed: A Few Good Citizens

See if this sounds familiar — you read an article or watch a show about the state of the environment and you think to yourself, “I wish there was something I could do to help.”

You probably already buy the right lightbulbs, you recycle, and maybe you even have a hybrid or electric car. But – as they say on late night TV commercials – there’s more!

If you’ve had the urge to help and have a few extra hours a month, please join our local group that focuses its attention on raising awareness about how North Haven residents can save money and help the environment at the same time.

Clean energy for local schools, businesses, government and our homes is the aim of our group — the North Haven Clean Energy Task Force — which has existed since 2007. You don’t need any special knowledge or skill set, just a willingness to help and attend an hour meeting once a month.

Please join us in helping our neighbors and friends know about ways to save money and improve energy efficiency around town through:

• Free or low-cost programs, including Home Energy Solutions which can assess homes to determine ways to save on energy costs.

• Campaigns that connect homeowners and business people with companies that install solar panels that save money on electricity bills, contribute to a stable power grid and lessen our reliance on fossil fuels for energy.

• A monthly information column in the North Haven Courier with helpful tips and/ or how-to articles that can help everyone who is interested in saving on energy bills or saving our part of the planet.

Recent opportunities created on the national and state levels (including the new Inflation Reduction Act’s substantial energy funds) mean there is more money for rebates to encourage solar power on homes and business, electric outlets to charge electric cars and the installation of heat pumps systems that can reduce oil, gas or electricity heating bills by augmenting sources of heating and cooling and so much more.

With a government willing to defray part of the costs of alternative energy and products that can do it, all that’s still needed are people willing to get the word out. Please be one of those people! Grab a friend and have them join with you!

Help us help our neighbors and the environment.
