Dance Concert Proceeds Benefit Child Life at Yale New Haven Hospital

KILLINGWORTH

The Dance Corner of Killingworth presented a dance concert on Oct. 22 to benefit the Child Life Fund at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. The fifth annual Dancing From the Heart concert featured dance performances from Connecticut dance companies including, Ballet Hartford, Moxie Dance, and River Valley Dance Project and Moxie Dance.

Students from The Dance Corner and The School of Ballet Hartford also performed. Proceeds from the concert, which amounted to $1,950, will be donated to the Child Life Department at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

Child Life at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital helps children cope with the adjustments of being in a hospital by providing a variety of play experiences. These activities help both children and families gain a greater understanding of medical procedures, which helps reduce stress and fear of the unknown. Money raised by this concert will directly benefit pediatric patients at Yale.

Carrie Smith, director of The Dance Corner said, “It has been a long-time dream of mine to bring professional and student dancers from our community together for a performance to benefit those in need. Part of our mission at The Dance Corner is to promote dance in our community and to give back. This event does both. Since 2017 this event has raised more than $10,000 for the Child Life Fund.”

The Dance Corner staff and students are currently preparing for their second charitable concert of the season. The Winter Follies will be presented at the Clinton Town Hall auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. Admission is $10 or donation of a new unwrapped toy for the Madison Youth and Family services and Yale New Haven Children’s hospital. Tickets are available at the door.

According to Smith, the Dance Corner is dedicated to providing its students with a well-rounded education in all facets of dance and tumbling. Classes are designed to increase confidence, build self-esteem and develop coordination in an interactive, group environment. With instruction for all ages and levels of experience. Fall class registration is open, and free trial classes are available for prospective students. To register or schedule a trial class visit TheDanceCorner.com.
