09/02/2022 10:28 AMAn arrest has been made in connection with an April 2022 motor vehicle stop in which the operator of a vehicle stopped fled before allegedly discarding a stolen firearm behind a house on Harrington Avenue.
While on routine patrol on April 19, Officer Stephen Marsico conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Main Street and Boston Avenue on a Lexus GS 300 after observing an equipment violation. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Tyreek London, 24, of New Haven, initially provided Officer Marsico with his identification and agreed to exit the vehicle to speak with officers when requested to. As London walked towards the rear of the vehicle, he suddenly fled westbound on Main Street, leading police on a foot pursuit through several back yards on Harrington Avenue.
Officer Donato Palma and his K-9 partner Enzo arrived on scene and conducted an article search along the path London fled. Enzo successfully located a black firearm in the backyard of a residence on Harrington Avenue. The located firearm, a loaded .45 caliber Glock was later determined to be stolen out of Hamden in July 2021. A search of the abandoned Lexus led to the discovery of .45 caliber ammunition, which were determined to be a match of the bullets found in the stolen firearm.
After a lengthy investigation, Officer Stephen Marsico submitted an arrest warrant affidavit for London which was issued in July. London was arrested on Aug. 25 after East Haven Police Officers took him into custody without incident in New Haven.
London was processed and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, theft of a firearm, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment in the first degree, interfering with an officer, operating a motor vehicle without window tint requirement, possession of marijuana, and possession with intent to sell.
He was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 7 in New Haven.
