GFL Offers More than Books at 41st Annual Sale

Shoppers will find more than just books at the Guilford Free Library’s (GFL) 41st annual Friends’ Fall Book and Bake Sale.

The sale is a major event on Guilford’s annual calendar, and it will return in full swing with this year’s sale on Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Among the many offerings is an outstanding selection of books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl, puzzles, music, and ephemera.

Over the past year, dozens of volunteers have spent hundreds of hours curating and organizing thousands of donated items to make the sale a joy for shoppers, according to Supervisory Reference Librarian Danielle Eadevito, adding that attendees will also find a superb selection of gently used books.

“Each year the sale offers a great selection of gently used fiction and non-fiction books for adults and children. There is something for everyone: cookbooks, classics, history, art, nature, sports, health and wellness to name a few. For children and teens there are board books, chapter books, and a variety of young adult books to choose from,” said Eadevito. “The sale will also feature DVDs, CDs, vinyl, puzzles, music, and ephemera including vintage Life and Connecticut magazines, playbills, sheet music, and maps. Folks will also find delicious home baked treats at the Bake Sale on Saturday while supplies last.”

According to staff, everything is in excellent condition and ready to purchase at unbeatable prices and on Sunday everything is half price. The Bake Sale, held on Saturday in the Lobby of the Library, offers delicious home-baked treats. Shoppers are asked to bring their own bag. Reusable bags will be sold for $1.

Funds from the sale will help the library buy books, sponsor programs for children, teens, and adults; purchase equipment, software, and hardware; and provide staff development.

“The money raised by the Friends of Guilford Free Library Annual Fall Book & Bake Sale directly supports the Library’s many programs and services,” Eadevito explained. “These programs and services promote education and learning and are free to the public.”

Eadevito said the sale is a special event for the library as well as patrons and is supported by a number of community entities and volunteers.

“Of course, the sale wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication from the Friends of the Library. They spend countless hours organizing, volunteering, sorting, staffing, and baking to ensure the book sale is a success each and every year. In addition to the volunteer efforts of the Friends, the sale is supported by a generous grant from the Guilford Savings Bank and the Guilford Foundation,” according to Eadevito.

The Library is located at 67 Park Street across from the Guilford Green. For more information, visit guilfordfreelibrary.org or call 203-453-8282.
