North Branford Primary Voting Results

North Branford’s registered Democrats and Republicans who came out to vote in the Aug. 9, 2022 primaries complemented overall voting results statewide to help pick candidates for their parties in the November 8, 2022 election, according to primary results returned from the town to the Secretary of State. Results were accumulated among the town’s three polling locations.

North Branford Republican voters supported Leora R. Levy in her state-wide win the primary race for GOP candidate for Third Congressional District U.S. Senator in November. Levy gathered 244 North Branford votes, a total of 55.5 percent overall. Remaining votes made by North Branford Republicans added up to 177 votes for contender Themis Klarides, or 40.3 percent. A total of 18 votes were given to contender Peter Lumaj.

North Branford Democrats and Republicans voted in the Aug. 9 primary to help determine their parties’ Secretary of State candidates for November. North Branford Democrats supported the state-wide primary winner, Stephanie Thomas, by nearly 73 percent, with 207 votes registered. Democratic primary candidate Maritza Bond received 77 votes. North Branford Republicans supported the state-wide GOP primary winner, Dominic Rapini, with 269 votes or 65.29 percent; while giving primary candidate Terrie E. Wood 143 votes or 34.7 percent.

Democrats in North Branford selected state-wide primary winner Erick Russell to run as Democratic candidate for State Treasurer in November. Russell gathered 58 percent of total votes in North Branford, 167. The remaining votes were split between primary contenders Dita Bhargava (62 votes, or 21 percent) and Karen Dubois-Walton (58 votes, or 20 percent).

North Branford’s 3 polling district sites on Aug. 9 included newly-formed District 3, created due to the state redistricting plan. District 3 was first utilized in the May 10, 2022 budget referendum question vote.

For the Aug. 9 primary, the Registrar of Voters office directed District 3 voters to vote in Northford at the Stanley T. Williams Community (STW) Center in the Board of Education meeting room, and District 2 voters at STW in the senior center. District 2’s polling site will reverting back to the STW gymnasium for November 2022 elections. District 1 votes at Jerome Harrison Elementary School in North Branford.
