Branford Primary Voting Results

Branford’s registered Democrats and Republicans who came out to vote in the Aug. 9 primaries voted in lock step with the overall results statewide to determine candidates for their parties in the November 8 statewide election, according to primary results returned from the town to the Secretary of State. Results were accumulated in Branford at polls in the town’s seven voting districts.

Democratic voters living in General Assembly House District 98 also voted in the majority, as did those in Guilford, to select Moira Rader as the Democratic candidate on the Tuesday, Nov. 8 Democratic ballot for District 98 State Representative. Branford Democrats provided 265 of the total 1,327 votes garnered by Rader on Aug. 9. Contender Andy Gottlieb earned 557 votes overall, with 118 of those votes registered in Branford. In a close race, Branford Republican voters helped to elevate Leora R. Levy to a state-wide win the primary race for GOP candidate for Third Congressional District U.S. Senator in November. Levy gathered 402 Branford votes, or 48.8 percent overall. Remaining votes made by Branford Republicans tallied up 375 votes for contender Themis Klarides, or 45.5 percent. There were 46 votes cast for Peter Lumaj.

Both Democrats and Republicans voted to determine Secretary of State candidates for November. Branford Democrats supported the state-wide primary winner, Stephanie Thomas, by 67.85 percent, with 939 votes registered. Democratic primary candidate Maritza Bond received 445 votes in Branford. Branford Republicans supported the state-wide primary winner, Dominic Rapini, with 580 votes or 73. Percent; while giving primary candidate Terrie E. Wood 210 votes, or 26.5 percent.

Democrats in Branford selected state-wide primary winner Erick Russell to run as Democratic candidate for State Treasurer in November. Russell gathered 729 total votes in Branford, or 52.45 percent; with the remaining split between primary contenders Dita Bhargava (21.5 percent) and Karen Dubois-Walton (26 percent).
