Guilford Center for Children Seeking Support for Growth

Guilford Center for Children (GCC) has started initial conversations with town stakeholders to discuss possibilities of growth in its GCC Early Education program for Guilford’s youngest citizens. GCC has seen the need to expand in its ever-growing waitlist and is looking into all possibilities on how to accept more families. GCC currently has a waitlist for September 2022 that could fill four additional classrooms. In addition to the need to physically expand classroom space,GCC will need to hire qualified and dedicated staff.

GCC is a nonprofit, incorporated in 1971, with a mission of offering high quality early education and before and after school programs for working families in Guilford and surrounding towns. Its licensed and accredited programs located at 47 Stone House Lane as well as in the Calvin Leete, Guilford Lakes, and A.W. Cox Elementary schools serve a total of nearly 300 families.

Since reopening from the pandemic, the GCC’s Before and After School Program has doubled in size, serving a current total of 200 families, 116 of which have never been enrolled, and continues steady growth, while its Early Education Program is back to accepting full enrollment while continuing to grow a waiting list. The Before and After School Care Program continues to work with Guilford Public Schools as well to collaborate on program growth possibilities.

GCC’s goal is to never turn a family away due to its financial situation. GCC offers sliding scale tuition to qualifying families.

To help us grow and best serve working families, GCC is calling on the community to offer any leads on property that can be used to expand its physical capacity, and for any funding resources to help make the necessary physical expansion less reliant on CHEFA loans. Those with any information on potential space can contact Lisa Jones, director of GCC Early Education Program, at 203-453-8050 or Jessica Catlin, director of GCC Before and After School Program, at 203-453-0045. Donations can be made online at or mailed to 47 Stone House Lane, Guilford 06437.
