Teachers on a Roll: Pre-K Convoy Swings by Students' Homes in Branford and Beyond
Starting in Branford, then winding through Guilford and Madison and not stopping 'til they got to Middlefield, a convoy pre-K teachers who miss their students decorated their cars and drove past driveways to greet pupils at their homes on April 1.
The team of teachers are all educators with The Country School of Madison, a pre-school through grade 8 private school. The school is implementing distance learning as school buildings have closed in accordance with the state's COVID-19 requirements, according to its website, www.thecountryschool.org.
"We're the pre-K team," said teacher Karen Chiaia, who drove the lead car, complete with several large pink stuffed animal passengers beside her up front and a "We Miss You" sign she hoisted through the sunroof at every stop.
Zip06/The Sound first spotted the four-car convoy in Branford, shortly before noon. They were heading out to Guilford next.
"We are going from Branford all the way to Middlefield," Chiaia said. "We're stopping in Guilford, Madison, Centerbrook...we're all over today. We miss our students!"
The convoy was decked out with TCS magnets, supportive messages on posters and in window paint and plenty of eye-catching stuffed animals positioned at windows on all sides, from dogs to a pair of dragons.
At their first stop in Guilford, the convoy's cheering and horn-beeping drive-by was greeted by a student's family cheering and waving back a "We [heart] You" banner.
