Over 13 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Branford
In a notification sent out Sun.March 29 confirming that the town of Branford had more than 13 COVID-19 cases, The rising number of cases was reported six days after the first two confirmed COVID-19 cases in Branford were reported on Monday, March 23, involving two males between the ages of 63 and 70 years old.
First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove urged the community to adhere to all recommended public health practices. Cosgrove also said out-of-state residents who have arrived in Branford should self-quarantine for 14 days. Cosgrove reminded residents that social gatherings are "not advisable" and are now restricted to no more than five persons.
Cosgrove also said it is "essential that we continue to practice social distancing and take all [the] personal preventative measures seriously." The news was issued via town-wide emergency notification March 29 at 6 p.m., going out by text and phone call messages.
The alert also called for the community to stay safe by staying home; but if you must go out, maintain a 6-foot distance from others. It called for disposing of used gloves and masks properly (in a sealed bag in a trash bin; never thrown on the ground); continue frequent and proper hand washing and to contact a doctor immediately if you become ill.
"Following these public health recommendations will keep you, your family and our community safe and help shorten the duration of the pandemic. Together, I assure you, we will get through this situation," said Cosgrove.
