Heavy rain and recent snowmelt has swelled the Connecticut River, leading to localized flooding during high tides. Today, the high tide hit the lower Connecticut River at about 11 a.m., submerging low-lying areas such as the Deep River Landing and Ferry Road in Chester.
While the U.S. Coast Guard sent an ice breaker up the river today, the flooding on the Connecticut River is not due to ice damming, which has led to recent evacuations in the Housatonic River basin.
