Nine Guilford residents recently received a total of $23,000 in scholarships from the Guilford Rotary Club Memorial Educational Fund to help pay for educational expenses. The fund assists Guilford residents attending or planning to attend continuing education programs, job training programs, colleges, or graduate schools. Since its founding, the fund has awarded more than $390,000 to approximately 325 applicants.
This year’s recipients and the schools they are attending include Molly Louis (Quinnipiac University), Kyle Landry-McWilliams (University of Vermont), Matthew Landry-McWilliams (Sarah Lawrence College), Amanda Simon (Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine), Sabrina Trombetta (Amherst College), Christopher Vanacore (University of Miami), Megan Vanacore (The College of Saint Rose), Alexis Wainer (University of Saint Joseph), and Abigail Yerkes (Utah Valley University).
The Memorial Educational Fund was established in 1966 as a non-profit organization by members of the Guilford Rotary Club. It is funded by Rotary Club contributions, by tax-deductible donations from Rotarians and non-Rotarians, and from the proceeds of Rotary Club fundraising events, such as Lobsterfest, the Frosty 5K New Year’s Day Road Race, and other Rotary events.
