12/30/2014 11:00 PMCo-owners Bill Walker and Peter Loden opened their first store in Guilford in 1989, selling giftware, housewares, scarves, hats, gloves, and more. Loden had enjoyed a long, successful career in retail along the shoreline, while Walker had a background in theater as a costume designer. The brought their skills together to create a unique shop.
The duo soon moved Walker-Loden to an 1839 home in New Haven just north of the Green. Then, they opened a second location in a historic storefront on Boston Post Road in Madison. Walker-Loden prides itself on keeping the window display at this location eye-catching. The shop also does not charge a fee to deliver the furniture it sells, asking instead for a donation to support the people of Haiti.
Walker-Loden has recently opened a third location in Essex.
