11/08/2022 03:36 PMSanta Claus is officially coming back to town. Christmas in Clinton will return to downtown Clinton on Sunday, Dec. 4.
Christmas in Clinton has been a staple of Clinton’s holiday season for almost two decades. Organized by the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, the event sees Clinton’s downtown transformed into a winter wonderland.
Chamber Executive Director Paul Orsini said that the chamber is still ironing out all the details for the day but everything is almost all set. The event will run from 1 to 6 p.m. with attractions both outside along Main Street and inside the Town Hall.
“We’re still in the middle of getting everything figured out, but every business I’ve talked to that’s open has been interested so far,” said Orsini.
Confirmed returning events this year are the craft fair, a performance of Hansel and Gretel by Connecticut Opera and Kidz Konnection, a tree lighting with Christmas carols, and of course, an appearance by Santa and pictures with Santa.
“All up and down the street there’s going to be something,” said Orsini.
Favorites like the soup contest and other foods and drinks are still being worked out Orsini said. A finalized list of attractions will be posted as the day gets closer. Orsini said that a map detailing the list of activities will be posted online.
Christmas in Clinton is an annual event that has been a big draw to Clinton’s downtown.
Initially in 2020, town leaders were optimistic that the event would still be a go but as cases steadily climbed that became less feasible. By early November, Clinton’s COVID level had reached the threshold where leaders felt it was more prudent to cancel the event. However, the event returned in 2021 and was a big hit with organizers and attendees alike, something Orsini is eager to see again in 2022.
“I’m just looking forward to the return of a big event. I think it’ll be bigger than ever this year,” said Orsini.
