‘We Are Morgan’: Congrats to the Class of 2022

On the sunny evening of June 13, the 136 members of The Morgan School Class of 2022 gathered on the football field behind The Morgan School to celebrate the end of the of their high school career with the community. The ceremony was livestreamed and is available online on The Morgan School website morgan.clintonpublic.net.

Speeches were made by Class President Brady Fritz, Salutatorian William Curry, Valedictorian Tarik Hasic, student Board of Education representatives Jessica Flanagan and Katherine Robinson, as well as Board of Education Chair Erica Gelven, Superintendent of Schools Maryann O’Donnell, and Principal Keri Hagness.

In his speech, Fritz touched on the bond the class members had developed over their four years together.

“We are Morgan. We are family. I had no idea how meaningful those words would be,” Fritz said.

In their joint speech, Flannagan and Robinson spoke of the chances they hoped their fellow classmates will take in the future as they strive to become the best versions of themselves and how The Morgan School had prepared them for those chances.

“Standing here today I can’t imagine not taking the risk of attending The Morgan School,” said Flannagan.

In her speech, Gelven recalled the fun of days from the past like Marine Science Day or Dodge for a difference, as well as the journey the kids went on to get to where they are today.

“Through all you have confronted and overcome over the past four years, you have gained compassion, courage, and confidence to build and travel the path you choose for yourselves, all rooted in the knowledge that your community is here, cheering you on,” said Gelven. “Time moves on and holds its sway; For you there’s now a new and ever brighter day.”

Hagness spoke about the creativity and school spirit that the class so frequently showed over its years and how fun it was to observe.

“This is a job I don’t have to do; this is a job I get to do,” Hagness said.

Finally, moments after Tyler Zitzkat crossed the stage to receive his diploma, Fritz was called upon to fulfill his final duty as class president to a chorus of laughs and “Four more years!” chants. He congratulated the Class of 2022 and instructed the students to move their tassel to the other side of their cap. The sky was soon filled with raucous applause and flying caps.
