The Board of Police Commissioners has had a busy few months, promoting three veteran officers, hiring two new recruits, and keeping a search going for new patrol officers.

At a May 24 special meeting, Board of Police Commissioners Chair Larry Lazaroff administered the police officer oath to Captain Joe Woznyk, Commissioner Alden Mead administered the police officer oath to Lieutenant Christopher Spose, and Vice Chairman Robin Wilson administered the police officer oath to Sergeant Michael DiCocco.

According to the department, each of these officers has held various positions within the agency and has served in roles such as school resource officer, training instructor, field training officer, field training coordinator, SWAT operator/team leader, detective, accident reconstruction member, and more.

The three promotions were unanimously approved at the board’s April 26 meeting. At that meeting, the board also approved an offer to extend employment to four candidates contingent on their passing polygraph, psychological, in-depth background, entry-level medical, and substance abuse screening examination and passing a physical fitness test.

On June 1, two of those candidates, Angel Aviles and Louis Camputaro, were sworn in at a special Board of Police Commissioners and have begun training at the Meriden Police Academy, which will be followed in North Haven by a field training program. Aviles and Camputaro follow the April 11 hire Jason Diaz and Cassandra Soda, who started at the Milford Police Academy on April 21.

On June 1, Police Chief Kevin Glenn reported he had reserved four recruit seats for upcoming academy courses in anticipation of more new hires.
