As of approximately 2 p.m. on April 28, BPD shared the South Central Regional Traffic Team is actively investigating the crash, with that investigation "in the beginning stages of what will be an in-depth and lengthy investigation." Police also noted the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working alongside officers to identify the victims and make notifications to the next of kin.

"We recognize the impact a loss of this magnitude will have on families, friends and our community now and in the future," BPD shared, in a notice posted at the department's Facebook page.
