North Branford Community Fund Drive to Aid Ukraine March 26

North Branford will hold a fund collection Sat. March 26, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. ; when community residents can bring monetary donations to assist those in need in Ukraine. Local leaders note North Branford shares Ukraine's love of the sunflower (or 'soniashnyk') which is also Ukraine's national flower. Since 2019, North Branford's Economic Development Commission's Sunflower Project has promoted the town's bevy of blooms (such as these in a field on Forest Road) as part of the town's agricultural appeal and friendly nature.File Photo Kelley Fryer/The Sound

A joint venture by the North Branford Town Council, Town Hall staff, and the Board of Education will sponsor a drive through collection on Sat., March 26 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  at Augur Park. The schools will also be sponsoring fundraisers leading up to March 26 as part of this community event.

We have all heard about the atrocities the people of Ukraine have faced in the last several weeks and continue to endure.  As a very caring, supportive community we would like to help Ukrainian families by collecting monetary donations to send to Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org) or Americares (www.americares.org).  All donations, no matter the amount, will be graciously accepted. Anyone wishing to pay by check may select one of the organizations listed to make their check out to, drop off during the collection, and we will mail them all together.

The national flower of Ukraine is the sunflower which has also become the focal feature of many fields in our community. We hope you will join us on Sat., March 26 and together we can help make a difference.
