January 28, 2022: A powerful Nor'Easter with possible blizzard conditions is expected to impact our area beginning early Saturday morning and continuing through Saturday evening. Total snowfall is currently forecast to range from 18"- 24". High winds and strong wind gusts are also expected causing the blowing/drifting of snow, resulting in low visibility. Due to the high winds and wind gusts power outages are also possible. Minor coastal flooding (tides 1 – 2 feet above normal) is expected during high tide.

Residents are advised of the following:

· Pay attention to local weather forecasts on local radio/tv stations.

· Drivers are advised to stay off the roads unless their travel is necessary.

· Residents should avoid parking in the roadway especially on one-way streets and in cul-de-sacs. The Town's ordinance prohibits parking on the even side of the roadway during and for 24 hours after the snowfall. However, due to the potential impact of this major storm, we request that all vehicles are removed from the roadway.

· Prepare for possible power outages, make sure cell phones and other electronic devices are charged.

· Power outages should be reported directly to Eversource at 800-592-2000.

· Use 911 to report emergencies only, do not call 911 to report utility outages.

· Be sure to clear snow from the area where furnaces, hot water heaters, clothes dryers and other appliances vent outside the building. Should your Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm activate please evacuate the building and call 911.

· It is the responsibility of the owner, tenant, occupant or any person having the care of any land or building adjoining any sidewalk to clear the sidewalk of all ice and snow following the storm.

· It is also a violation of town ordinance to deposit snow from private driveways into the roadway and homeowners are responsible for violations committed by their private plowing contractors.

· We also ask and encourage, residents that live near hydrants to please take some time to clear snow away from hydrants to ensure that the hydrant is both visible and has a useable work space around it.

· For residents concerned with minor coastal flooding, sand and sandbags are available at DPW located at 137 North Branford Road (on the right as you enter the property).

· Road salt/sand mix is available for residents at DPW located at 137 North Branford Road (on the right as you enter the property) limited to (2) 5 gallons buckets.

· The Transfer Station will be closed Saturday. The James Blackstone Memorial and Willoughby Wallace Memorial libraries will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

The Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the situation closely.
