State Data Shows Continued Higher Rates Of COVID-19 Inoculation In Older Ages


The age of those in Chester, Deep River, and Essex being vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus continues to skew to the older age brackets, and a high percentage of children under 11 remain unvaccinated, according to state data as of Dec. 15.

The data shows that overall, 76.41 percent of residents in Chester have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as compared to 82.33 percent of residents in Deep River and 86.5 percent of residents in Essex.

For those 65 and older, 98.52 percent of residents in Chester have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as compared to 100 percent of residents in Deep River and 100 percent of residents in Essex, according to the state data.

The data shows that for those 45 to 64 years old, 71.06 percent of residents in Chester have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as compared to 88.95 percent of residents in Deep River and 81.27 percent of residents in Essex.

For those 25 to 44 years old, 89.21 percent of residents in Chester have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as compared to 72.62 percent of residents in Deep River and 85.9 percent of residents in Essex.

The data shows that for those 18 to 24 years old, 71.13 percent of residents in Chester have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as compared to 80.78 percent of residents in Deep River and 100 percent of residents in Essex.

For those 12 to 17 years old, 62.5 percent of residents in Chester have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as compared to 69.15 percent of residents in Deep River and 69.67 percent in Essex.

The data shows that for those 5 to 11 years old, 24.43 percent of residents in Chester have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as compared to 28.34 percent of residents in Deep River and 27.8 percent of residents in Essex.

Vaccination Rates of K-12 Teachers

On Nov. 22, Governor Ned Lamont released the results of a one-time survey of public and private school districts on the vaccinations rates of K-12 school employees in Connecticut.

According to the survey, 91 percent of school employees at Chester Elementary School, 95 percent of school employees at Deep River Elementary School, and 95 percent of school employees at Essex Elementary School have been fully vaccinated.

The state survey also showed that 95 percent of school employees in Regional School District 4, encompassing John Winthrop Middle School and Valley Regional High School, have been fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 Cases

In Chester, Deep River, and Essex, cases of COVID-19 continue to climb, as do those in all towns and cities across Connecticut.

In Chester, there were 11 cases during the reporting period from Nov. 28 to Dec. 11, compared to 18 total cases in Deep River and 42 cases in Essex, according to state data as of Dec. 16.
