An unsung park space in the center of Branford is now vibrant with color and art, thanks to the recent installation of three triumphant sculptures by renowned Connecticut artist David Hayes, sponsored by Branford Arts and Cultural Alliance (BACA). The three steel sculptures now light up a Town-owned stretch of green space known as Tyler Park, which lies at the corner of Cedar Street and Main Street, just past the Blackstone Library.

The sculptures, dubbed Triumph, Peacock and Oval Screen Sculpture, were installed with assistance from Branford Public Works crew members and will be on display in the park for one year, according to BACA.

In a press release issued Dec. 21, BACA announced the installation of the three works of art, noting, "...this is another BACA effort to continue its mission to bring art to the community, and BACA considers it to be an extension of the gallery also on Main Street."

BACA's Main Street gallery, a rotating collection of artwork on display and for sale by area artists, is located at 1004 Main St.

As additionally noted in the press release, the pieces are by David Hayes, "...an artist known internationally for his expressive, bold, and creative sculptures."

BACA also noted the installation is a collaboration with the David Hayes Foundation and is supported by a generous grant from the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.

Hayes, who passed away in 2013, was a Connecticut native, born in Hartford, who worked in Coventry, Connecticut and Paris, France over a period of six decades, according to his biography. He received the Fulbright award and a Guggenheim Fellowship, was a recipient of the Logan Prize for Sculpture and received an award from the National Institute of Arts and Letters. His works have appeared in some 400 exhibitions and is included in over 100 institutional collections including those of New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum.

Founded in 2014, non-profit BACA's mission is to support all of the arts in Branford and on the shoreline by presenting arts focused events and providing opportunities for performance artists and visual artists to present their work to the public in various venues across Branford.
