Recently the East Haven Rotary Club honored its September and October Students of the Month recipients Abigail Brooks and Kayla Astorino. These intelligent and hard-working young women are currently in this year’s junior class at East Haven High School.

Brooks, the September nominee, was nominated from the Science Department and is the junior swim captain and also is on the school’s tennis team. Brooks is looking forward to attending college to study marine biology.

Astorino, nominated for English, is a member of the Kindness Club and also the Leadership Council. She also has a passion for volleyball. Astorino’s goal is to finish medical school and become a doctor so she can make a positive change to health care. She hopes to one day be a part of Doctors Without Borders.

Each month the Rotary recognizes a student from East Haven High School’s junior class. The student is invited to attend a Thursday night dinner meeting at the Twin Pines Diner Restaurant and is presented with a certificate and a check for $ 100. Winners then become eligible for the $1,000 Jack Leary Memorial scholarship to be awarded at the end of their senior year. The club will be celebrating its 83rd year in 2022 as it was organized on March 3, 1939.
