North Haven Mascot Committee Launches Campaign for New School Mascot, Seeks Input

The North Haven Mascot Committee (NHMC) is excited to announce a campaign to choose a new mascot to represent our school district. NHMC will be accepting mascot idea submissions the week of Nov. 8 through 12. Submission forms are available at shorturl.at/hnyTU, at the North Haven Senior Center, Town Hall, or Public Library.

NHMC was formed as part of an initiative of the North Haven Board of Education with the goal of establishing a fair and fun process for selecting a new mascot to represent a unified school district. It is composed of board members, students, teachers, administrators, parents, booster club members, North Haven residents, and representatives from the Native and Indigenous community of North Haven.

After several deliberative sessions, NHMC has established a series of guidelines that will enable the students and residents of North Haven to participate in the process of selecting a new mascot for the schools. Those proposing a new mascot should be sure their mascot idea connects to North Haven, is fun and exciting, is unique to North Haven, stands for something special to North Haven, and is something everyone can be proud of.

NHMC reserves the right to disqualify any mascot submission that does not meet the campaign guidelines.

Process for Students of North Haven Schools

Every North Haven student will have the opportunity to submit a suggestion for a new mascot during the week of Nov. 8 to 12.

At the elementary level, once all submissions have been received, NHMC will remove any duplicative submissions and vet all submissions against the campaign guidelines. Each elementary school will submit two ideas for a new mascot.

At the North Haven Middle School and North Haven High School, once all submissions have been received, Student Council officers will be charged with removing any duplicative submissions and vet all submissions against the campaign guidelines. Each of the upper grades (6 through 12) will submit one idea each for a new mascot.

All students will vote via Google form, in school, the week of Dec. 6.

Process for North Haven Residents

North Haven residents can submit suggestions for a new mascot via shorturl.at/hnyTU or at the North Haven Senior Center, Town Hall or Public Library. Once all submissions have been received, NHMC will remove any duplicative submissions and vet all submissions against the campaign guidelines.

The committee will then send out all final entries for a vote starting Monday, Dec. 6. Proof of residence will be required when submitting a Google or paper form.

After all voting has been completed, the winning recommendation will be brought before the Board of Education for final approval and implementation.

NHMC is excited to work through this process with all North Haven residents and looks forward to a new mascot that can unite us all.
