Donate Now to Support 'Wreaths Across America' Honoring Veterans in Branford Cemeteries

In 2020, wreaths decorated for each branch of military were on display at St. Agnes Cemetery as volunteers fanned out to lay hundreds of wreaths on military graves at Branford's seven cemeteries, coordinated by Branford resident Mark Hally. This year is Hally's third year raising funds for wreaths to be placed on military graves in town, to take place on Dec. 18, National Wreaths Across America Day.File Photo Pam Johnson/The Sound

For the third year in a row, Branford teen Mark Hally Mark is raising funds for wreaths to decorate military graves at Branford's seven cemeteries on National Wreaths Across America (WAA) Day. This year, National WAA Day is Sat. Dec. 18.

Donations of at least $15 (the cost of one wreath) are needed now so that the wreaths can be ordered and received in time. Military families and others who want to support the effort can make a donation now online at the Troop 604 - Mark Hally Eagle Project (CT0101) WAA account at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/160304

In addition, checks payable to Wreaths Across America can be mailed c/o Mark Hally, 18 Wilford Ave. Branford CT 06405.

Hally instituted the program in Branford in 2019 as part of his Eagle Scout project, culminating with a ceremony and wreath-laying event that began at St. Agnes Cemetery. Despite the pandemic, he continued his fundraising efforts to bring in wreaths again in 2020, with volunteers coming out to assist with the laying of wreaths.

Each year on National WAA Day, wreaths like those which will decorate Branford military graves are placed on military graves at Arlington National Cemetery and at tens of thousands of other military graves across the country at over 1,200 locations.

Anyone interested in helping Hally with this year's Dec. 18 WAA program in Branford's cemeteries is asked to email wreaths06405@gmail.com
