North Branford Police Seize Vehicle in Investigation of Fatal Hit & Run


North Branford police have seized and secured a vehicle located in Killingworth with damage consistent to that resulting from an Oct. 16 hit and run accident which killed a 52-year-old North Branford resident.

An Oct. 22 update issued by North Branford Police Department (NBPD) reported its detective bureau developed information on Monday, Oct. 18 regarding the possible evading vehicle involved in the death of Douglas Clark of North Branford. Police released the identity of Clark as the accident victim on Oct. 20, noting the deceased was on foot when he was struck by the evading vehicle. The deceased was located by police early on Oct. 16 on the roadside in front of 27 Branford Road/Route 139 in response to a 911 call for an unknown medical issue (see related stories).

According to an NBPD press release issued just before noon on Oct. 22, "...investigators located a green 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sahara in Killingworth, CT.  This vehicle has damage consistent with this incident.  The vehicle was seized and transported to a secure facility.  A search warrant has been approved by the Connecticut States Attorney's Office and with the assistance of Connecticut State Police Major Crimes, this vehicle will be processed for any and all evidence."

Police have been seeking the public's assistance with information regarding the incident and are continuing the investigation. NBPD asks anyone with further information to contact the North Branford Police Department at (203) 484-2703.

NBPD also noted in the Oct. 22 press release that, "We'd like to thank our regional law enforcement partners as well as the community for their overwhelming support and assistance during this tragic incident.  Our heart goes out to our community as we grieve together with the loss of our town resident Douglas Clark."
