Arrest Made in North Guilford Homicide

Guilford police have arrested Robert Faison, who is charged with the July 22 murder of his wife, 43 year-old Lindsey Hopkins at at her home in the Quonnipaug Hills condominiums. Faison, 45, of West Haven, was identified as a suspect and on July 30 located and taken into and remained in custody on a violation of probation warrant.

On July 22, the Guilford Police and Fire departments responded to a welfare check on a resident and upon arrival officers located a 42-year-old female suffering from obvious injuries. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner of death as homicide, according to a statement released by the Guilford PD.

The husband of the victim, Faison, was identified as a suspect, according to Guilford Police Chief Butch Hyatt. On July 30, with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police and the New York City Police Department, Faison was located at a homeless shelter in New York City and taken into custody for an outstanding Connecticut violation of probation warrant. Faison was extradited back to Connecticut on Aug. 11, and has been incarcerated since that time, according to Hyatt.

Hyatt expressed his gratitude to all of the agencies and entities involved in what turned out to be a multi-state multi-agency effort to capture this suspect.

“This was obviously a joint collaborative effort with a number of agencies. As we began running down leads, it branched out and we ended up receiving a lot of assistance form a number of other organizations and we are very appreciative of that,” he said. “There are simply somethings you can’t do by yourself in these types of investigations so it was essential that we got such great help.”

Hyatt also remarked on the significance of the arrest coming during Domestic Violence Awareness month.

“It is timely that we ended up making this arrest now. This was obviously a domestic violence incident and it is fitting that we could serve this warrant now during a time when we are focusing on this issue,” he said.

The Guilford Police Department worked with the Connecticut State Police, New York City Police Department and New York District Attorney’s Office, Connecticut State Forensic Laboratory, New Haven Police Department, Waterbury Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department, Madison Police Department, MTA Police Department, FBI, USSS/STCIG, Connecticut and New York departments of corrections, and the New Haven State’s Attomey’s Office to developed facts and evidence linking Faison to the crime.

Faison was arrested via warrant on Oct. 14 for the crime of murder and is currently being held on a $2 million bond.
