09/08/2021 12:00 AMAn arrest has been made in connection to a domestic violence stabbing incident that occurred during the early morning hours of Sept. 7.
On Sept. 7, officers were dispatched to a Foxon Boulevard address after the East Haven Public Safety Dispatch Center received a 911 hang-up. While enroute, dispatch advised officers that a female could be heard on an open line yelling for help in the background before the line disconnected. Upon officer’s arrival, a female victim was located suffering from stab wounds to her arm and upper chest area. It was determined that a juvenile on scene was also suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to his hand.
The East Haven Fire Department treated both victims on scene before being transported to the hospital via AMR for further treatment. None of the injuries were life threatening.
It was learned that an argument ensued after the victim told her husband, later identified as Jose Montero, 43, that he could not use her vehicle in the middle of the night. It was determined that a struggle began after he located her keys, which continued once he reached her vehicle. Montero brandished a knife once the victim entered her vehicle in an attempt to prevent him from leaving. During this struggle, both the female victim and the juvenile were injured by the knife. Montero then fled the residence in the vehicle. While officers were on scene, they located a firearm that had been reported stolen out of West Haven. The firearm was seized.
At approximately 3 a.m. while officers were canvassing the area, Montero, operating the victim’s vehicle, passed by traveling northbound on Highland Avenue. Officers attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, but he disregarded the officers, increased his speed, and led them on a pursuit into New Haven. Montero eventually crashed at the intersection of Rossette and Button streets while trying to negotiate a turn. He was taken into custody after a struggle with officers. An inventory of the vehicle prior to it being towed from the scene led to the discovery of the knife used in the incident.
Montero was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital as a precaution due to the accident. He was released soon after and was transported to the East Haven Police Department for processing. Montero was charged with robbery in the first degree, two counts of assault in the first degree, breach of peace in the second degree, risk of injury to a minor, two counts of criminal mischief in the second degree, criminal possession of a firearm, engaging police in pursuit, interfering with police, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Montero was held on a $250,000 bond and faced a judge on the morning of Sept. 7 at G.A. 23, 121 Elm Street New Haven.
