Westbrook Dems Announce full Slate for November

The Westbrook Democratic Town Committee (DTC) has announced its slate of candidates for the upcoming November election. Chet Bialicki has been nominated to run for first selectman and Vince Gentile for the Board of Selectman.

Each election year the town’s major parties hold caucuses in July to announce their candidates for the November municipal election. At those caucuses, the party formally nominates and endorses candidates.

The endorsed slates must be turned into the town clerk by July 28. The DTC shared its full slate with the Harbor News ahead of that date, while the Republican Town Committee (RTC) has not yet responded to requests for its slate. A Facebook post on the RTC Facebook page announced that Selectman John Hall was nominated by Republicans to run for first selectman while Joe Campbell was nominated by the RTC to the Board of Selectmen. As reported earlier, incumbent First Selectman Noel Bishop will not seek re-election in November.

The Harbor News will report on the full RTC slate when it is released.

Democratic Nominations

Besides Bialicki and Gentile, the following candidates were nominated by the DTC:

Joan Angelini was nominated for town clerk.

Mary Ella Luft and Haifa Jalil were nominated for the Board of Education.

Tom Burns and Greg Farnoli were nominated for the Board of Finance.

Kathleen Cietanno and Jodie Oshana were nominated for the Library Board of Trustees

Rounding out the slate was Jack Boehme who was nominated for the Zoning Board of Appeals.

For the first time in nearly 15 years, Westbrook is guaranteed to have new leadership. Last month Bishop announced he would not seek an eighth term as first selectman.

Should any member want to force a primary election of an endorsed candidate, primary forms must be filled out by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
