Cash machines inside two North Branford gas station stores were wrenched from inside the businesses, dragged through smashed front entries and driven off during two commercial burglaries to which police responded shortly after 1 a.m. on Thursday, June 3. Police are involved in an active investigation and believe the same suspects were responsible for both crimes.

According to a press release issued by North Branford Police Department (NBPD) June 3, the first commercial burglary was reported at the Mobil Gas station, 1371 Middletown Ave., where police responded at approximately 1:16 a.m. The building sustained extensive damage to the front entry after the suspects, who initially forced entry through the front door, then wrapped a cable around the store's ATM machine and pulled it from the business using a vehicle.  Police said the suspects then loaded the ATM into the back of a gray pick up truck and fled the scene.

Just 13 minutes later, at 1:29 a.m., police responded to a commercial burglar alarm reported at the Mobil Gas station, 271 Foxon Road.  According to the press release, "Responding officers observed forced entry was gained through the front doors of the business. They further observed the ATM was missing from the business. Video surveillance revealed a similar vehicle and suspect description as the earlier burglary."

Both scenes were processed by the NBPD detective division, which is conducting the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact North Branford Police at (203) 484-2703.
