Less than six months into the year, North Branford Police Department (NBPD) and first responders have responded to over 130 motor vehicle accidents, including two fatalities, numerous injuries, extrications from vehicles and a vehicle into a building.  With a goal of increased traffic safety, on May 25, NBPD issued an alert notifying the community that police are now conducting "intensive motor vehicle enforcement throughout the town for an extended period of time."

In March, NBPD and first responders were called to respond to two motor vehicle accidents resulting in fatalities, including a two-car accident on Foxon Road/Route 80 at Clear Lake Road on March 5 and a vehicle and moped accident on Foxon Road/Route 80 at Sea Hill Road on March 22.

NBPD's intensive motor vehicle enforcement is underway in both the North Branford and Northford sections of town, where drivers are being urged to "obey the traffic laws to avoid being stopped by our officers," according to the alert posted on the NBPD Facebook page.

"Warmer weather is upon us as well as the lifting of COVID restrictions. We have observed increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout our roadways. Please respect your neighbors, friends and relatives by coming together as a community and obeying the Connecticut State traffic laws," the department's message stated. "Our goal is traffic safety for all, as a community we have endured enough during this pandemic. Let's all have a safe and healthy 2021. Please slow down so we do not have to stop you."
