East Haven Announces Memorial Day Procession and Ceremonies

This year on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, the East Haven Veteran’s Council in conjunction with Mayor Joseph Carfora will honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Town of East Haven will continue the tradition of honoring the war dead with ceremonies of a reflective tone.

“I have the utmost respect for our veterans. We all enjoy blessed privileges every single day because of their commitment to our nation,” Carfora said. “As for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, our fallen heroes, we can never repay them and their families. But their memory must live in our hearts and minds forever.”

The ceremonies and remembrances will feature a procession from the American Legion Post 89 on Thompson Avenue to the East Haven Green. Prior to the procession arrival at Town Green, East Haven High School Band Director Matt Ludano and special guests will provide patriotic music starting at 11:45 a.m. The procession is scheduled to step off at noon. All East Haven veterans and town officials are invited to participate in the procession.

Upon arrival at 12:15 p.m. at the Town Green, there will be remarks from Carfora and other dignitaries and the town will honor Wendy Bellmore, East Haven’s 2021 honored veteran. Bellmore was commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1990 and assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Department, Army Nurse Corps. She served 19 years, attaining the rank of major. Following remarks, the veterans, Color Guard, and guests will proceed to the war monuments and honors will be rendered.
