Bishop: Moving Ahead in Westbrook

I am very pleased to report on the status of the following two activities in the Town of Westbrook:

The Westbrook Senior Center will re-open on Monday, May 17. In consultation with Director of Health Zachary Faiella, Senior Center Director Courtney Burks is planning a “soft” re-opening of the Senior Center with limited hours and programs. Please note that the re-opening date could be changed or postponed due to COVID-19 positivity rates. Information and guidelines for participation in activities will be available. These simple rules will help to keep participants safe and the Senior Center in compliance with the State of Connecticut’s re-opening plan. Please refer to the town’s website www.westbrookct.us for details on the programs offered and contact the Senior Center at 860-399-2029 to register for activities.

Also, the sidewalk project along the southerly side of Boston Post Road (from Gulf Links Road to Salt Island Road), funded via the Connectivity Grant, is ready to commence. It is anticipated that once construction begins, the project should be completed within three weeks (weather permitting). While there will be some disruption to businesses, the contractor has committed to property and building accessibility during the construction. This completes the sidewalk connection from the train station to the Town Center and improves sidewalk conditions along Route 1. Additional grants are being pursued to facilitate more sidewalks throughout the Town of Westbrook.
