The Exchange Club of Madison recently awarded Eric Dillner, son of Susan Yankee and Eric Dillner, the David Bell Scholarship Award for February 2021 Youth of the Month.

This year the competition was held open to the entire Senior Class at Daniel Hand High School (DHHS), and each applicant had to complete a competitive application which included an essay titled “I recognize my responsibility in shaping America’s future. I have stepped out of my comfort zone during uncertain times and made a difference. I am part of history and here is where it started.” Also, each applicant had to detail his or her DHHS student and community activities.

Eric Dillner is a high honors student, member of Class Council, co-captain and goalie of the DHHS hockey team, and co-president of the Exchange Club’s Excel Club. He received the Nick Wehrling Award for “A player who exhibits courage, desire, and character on and off the ice” at the Stan Mikita Hockey School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Dillner also earned other DHHS Awards including the Society of Women Engineers Award-CT Section, World Language Department Commendation Award, Social Studies Award, Technology Education Award, and a Shoreline Arts Alliance Future Choices 2nd place photography award.

Dillner has applied to and been accepted at the University of New Haven; he is waiting to hear from Connecticut College and Quinnipiac University.
