Town of Branford Grateful to First Responder Agencies

Rapid Response and Actions Helped Prevent Injuries, Save Numerous Lives

April 14, 2021: Yesterday, the Branford Police Department responded to an active shooter situation where an individual had barricaded himself in local business/residence and began shooting at civilians and police.  The area was immediately secured and assistance was sought from a variety of area agencies including the South Central Connecticut SWAT team, the Connecticut State Police, FBI, Branford 911 Dispatchers, Branford Fire Department and Police Departments from the towns of East Haven, North Haven, New Haven, North Branford, Madison and Guilford.

The Branford Fire Department transported one civilian to Yale New Haven Hospital for a non-life threatening gun shot wound.  No other injuries were reported by any other civilians or any of the responding units.

The Town of Branford is grateful for the rapid and well-organized response from all of our partnering agencies and believes that their swift response and actions helped prevent injuries and saved numerous lives.

This matter is still an active investigation that will be handled by the Branford Police Department in conjunction with the New Haven State's Attorney Office and Connecticut State Police.
